Who We Are

ShowPrompt is the trading name of the data controller responsible for your personal data. We operate the ShowPrompt software application and the website at showprompt.net.

This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and what your rights are under UK data protection law — specifically the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

We take privacy seriously. Our approach is simple: we collect only what we genuinely need, we don't sell your data, and we don't track what you do inside the application.

What Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

Account and billing data
When you purchase a ShowPrompt licence, our payment processor Lemon Squeezy collects your email address and payment details. ShowPrompt receives your email address for the purpose of sending your licence key and managing your subscription. We never see, store, or process your card details — payment handling is managed entirely by Lemon Squeezy.

Licence data
Your licence key, licence tier, and activation date are stored locally on your machine when you activate ShowPrompt. This data is held on your device and is sent to our payments provider (Lemon Squeezy) to verify your subscription at activation and during periodic re-checks, and is not otherwise transmitted.

Usage data
ShowPrompt does not collect usage analytics, telemetry, crash reports, or any behavioural data from within the application. We have no visibility into how you use the software.

Website server logs
When you visit showprompt.net, our hosting provider Netlify automatically records standard server log data — including your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, and pages visited. This is standard web server behaviour and is not used for tracking or profiling.

Support correspondence
If you contact us by email, we retain that correspondence in order to respond to and resolve your query. This may include your name, email address, and any information you choose to share.

How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect for the following purposes, each with a lawful basis under UK GDPR:

  • Processing and managing your subscription — to fulfil the contract with you when you purchase a licence (legal basis: performance of a contract).
  • Licence key delivery and activation — to deliver your licence and allow you to activate ShowPrompt on your device (legal basis: performance of a contract).
  • Responding to support requests — to answer your questions and resolve any issues you raise (legal basis: legitimate interests).
  • Sending important service updates — to notify you of critical changes such as security issues, updates, or changes to terms. This is not marketing. We will not send you promotional emails without your explicit consent (legal basis: legitimate interests or consent, depending on the nature of the communication).
  • Legal and compliance obligations — to comply with applicable laws and regulations, including tax and financial record-keeping requirements (legal basis: legal obligation).

We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling.

The Application Runs Locally

Your show data never leaves your network. ShowPrompt runs entirely on your local machine and communicates only with devices on the same local network. Nothing you create or operate within the software is transmitted to ShowPrompt's servers.

This is a core design principle. Your running orders, cue lists, scores, scripts, prompter content, and any other show data are processed and stored locally. We have no access to any of this data — ever.

The only time ShowPrompt communicates with the internet is during initial licence activation to validate your licence key. After that, the application functions entirely offline and on-network.

This approach means you can use ShowPrompt with confidence in controlled, secure, or offline environments such as stadium venues, broadcast galleries, and live event productions.

Third Parties

We work with a small number of third-party services. We do not sell your data to any third party, and we do not share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Lemon Squeezy
Our payment processor and subscription management platform. Lemon Squeezy acts as the Merchant of Record for ShowPrompt purchases, which means they are an independent data controller for your payment data. Your card details are handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy — we never receive or store them. We receive your email address and order details for the purpose of delivering your licence. Netlify
Our website hosting provider. Netlify stores standard server log data including IP addresses and browser information as part of normal web hosting operations. This data is retained for 30 days. See Netlify's privacy policy for details.
Google Fonts
Our website loads the Inter typeface from Google's font CDN. When your browser requests the font files, Google may log the request including your IP address. This is standard behaviour for web fonts loaded from a CDN. See Google's privacy policy for details.

We do not use advertising networks, social media tracking pixels, or any third-party analytics platform on our website or in our application.

We keep your data only for as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law.

ShowPrompt is a professional software product designed for use in live events, theatre, broadcast, and venue operations. It is not directed at or intended for use by children under the age of 13.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements.
